The "Make in India" initiative

The “Make in India” program was launched in September 2014 to transform India into a global design and manufacturing hub. It is an initiative of the Government of India to encourage multinational, as well as domestic, companies to manufacture their products in India.

“Make in India” is much more than an inspiring slogan. It represents a complete change of the Government’s mind-set: a shift from issuing authority to business partner.

Companies like Lenovo, Boeing, GE Transport, Samsung, Hitachi, to name a few, have already announced huge investments to start or increase manufacturing in India.

As per the Financial Times, India had attracted US$ 31 billion investments during the first half of 2015 surpassing China and the US.

“Make in India” covers 25 sectors from automobile, aviation, construction, ports, shipping to renewable energy, roads and highways and machinery.
