Need for smart water management in India

It is estimated that the annual per capita water availability in India will decline from 1.545 cubic meters (2011) to 1.140 cubic meter (2050).

Water related diseases are a primary cause of deaths in India, with around 38 million Indians affected by waterborne diseases annually.

More than 38 billion litres of sewage is generated in urban India annually. Most of the untreated sewage is discharged into rivers.

Therefore India urgently needs sustainable water management practices.

During the Flemish Economic Mission to India from 24 to 29 April 2016 we learned from Flemish experts that nano-technology is offering a huge scope for drinking water filtration.

Flemish researchers have developed a solution in the form of a novel membrane that is about to be rolled out.
